The APMG AgilePM Scrum Essentials course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key principles, roles, events, and artefacts of the Scrum framework, as adapted by the Agile Business Consortium. Aligned with the 2020 Scrum Guide™, the course is designed to equip Scrum team members and managers with the knowledge needed to effectively implement Scrum in any business context. It covers user stories, estimating, planning, and visualization techniques, ensuring participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical application of Scrum in real-world projects.

No formal prerequisites are required for this course. However, a basic understanding of Agile principles or project management frameworks may be beneficial for participants to get the most out of the course.

• Roles and accountabilities within the Scrum team
• The importance of self-organization and cross-functionality in Scrum

Scrum events

• The five core events: Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective
• How to use events to foster continuous improvement and team collaboration
• Understanding sprint duration and cadence

Scrum artefacts

• Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Increment: definitions and purpose
• Managing backlog refinement and prioritization
• Understanding the Definition of Done and its role in product quality

Planning and estimation techniques

• User stories and backlog management
• Planning poker and commitment-based planning techniques
• Visualization of plans and progress (e.g., burndown charts, velocity tracking)

Exams

The course includes an assessment to measure understanding and practical application of Scrum. The qualification is assessed through a multiple-choice exam, testing recall, comprehension, and application of Scrum concepts. This consists of:
