  • Designed for Microsoft 365 professionals responsible for protecting organisational data and managing compliance requirements.
  • Each participant receives access to a real commercial Microsoft 365 tenant for practical lab exercises.

Mastering Compliance and Security in Microsoft 365 is an in-depth five-day course combining instructor-led learning with extensive hands-on lab activities.

The course explores how Microsoft Purview capabilities can be implemented to support security, information protection, governance, and compliance requirements across Microsoft 365. It covers relevant functionality available through a range of Microsoft 365 subscriptions, including Business, E3, and E5.

The programme supports the key stages of the Microsoft Information Protection approach:

  • Know your data
  • Protect your data
  • Prevent data loss
  • Govern your data

Participants explore Microsoft Purview Portal, data classification, Content Search, eDiscovery, retention, SharePoint security and external sharing, Microsoft 365 Groups and Teams governance, Sensitivity Labels, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, Insider Risk Management, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), auditing, and compliance management tools.

Hands-on Labs

Each participant is provided with access to a commercial Microsoft 365 tenant for 30 days for optional hands-on exercises.

The lab environment is populated with sample data, allowing participants to configure and implement the Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 security and compliance solutions introduced throughout the course.

Labs are optional and structured so that participants can select the exercises most relevant to their learning requirements.

Note: Because some Microsoft Purview services require additional processing time, certain exercises may take several hours or longer to produce results. As a result, not every lab may be completed during the five-day course. The 30-day tenant access period gives participants sufficient time to continue and complete outstanding exercises afterwards.

Prerequisites

Participants should have a general understanding of core Microsoft 365 technologies and an interest in the business and technical benefits that Microsoft Purview can provide for security, information protection, governance, and compliance.

The course may require participants to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Participants should therefore install Microsoft Authenticator, or another compatible authentication application, on their mobile device before attending.

Microsoft's current MFA requirements and associated security guidance should also be reviewed before the course.

The instructor demonstrates key features throughout the programme, while optional practical exercises can be completed using the 30-day Microsoft 365 tenant supplied to each participant.
