Architecture involves designing systems that fully support the enterprise, and then monitoring those systems to ensure they meet up to expectations. Architects use techniques and processes to ensure solutions are efficient, compliant, and cost-effective. This foundation certificate introduces the main aims and concepts of architecture and explores the different subdomains of enterprise architecture.

This course is for anyone who is involved in any aspect of enterprise and solution architecture, including those who are new-to-role.

There are no mandatory requirements for learners to be able to undertake this certified qualification.

This qualification is suitable for learners who are looking to begin their career in architecture or for those looking to broaden their understanding of architecture domains.

Exam Requirements

If you are taking a BCS exam you must have photographic identification (passport, driving license or student card), as it is a BCS requirement to produce it for the invigilator prior to the exam. Failure to produce a valid form of photographic identification will result in a candidate not being able to sit the exam. Reasonable Adjustments Policy

BCS allow additional time for candidates who have a disability or whose native language differs to that of the examination paper. Full details are provided in the BCS Reasonable Adjustments Policy which is available to view on the BCS website. If you believe you qualify for this then please notify the Exam Administration team on the details below as early as possible. At least two weeks' notice will be required for processing this request. Delegates failing to advise QA and provide evidence when requested, may not be allowed the additional support offered via the BCS policy. Learners will have demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of

  • The meaning of ‘architecture’ and the different levels within it;
  • Different kinds of architecture and the roles architects play in the IT / IS industry;
  • The business context, and the importance of business-IT alignment;
  • Architecture precursors: goals, directives and constraints;
  • Architecture development process and description frameworks;
  • The various subdomains of enterprise and solutions architecture and their purpose;
  • The key activities undertaken in each subdomain and the related artefacts.

  • Introduction
  • Fundamentals of Architecture

Day Two:

  • Business Architecture Domain
  • Applications Architecture Domain
  • Data Architecture Domain
  • Infrastructure Architecture Domain

Day Three:

  • Infrastructure Architecture Domain (cont)
  • Software Architecture Domain
  • Security Architecture Domain
  • Solution Architecture

Examination

All BCS exams are delivered as Remote Proctored. Learners will log into their QuestionMark portal and schedule their exam for any time that suits them at a later date. This must be sat only after 5pm on the final day of the course.

One hour 'closed book' with 40 multiple choice questions

Pass mark is 65% (26/40)
