As a Red Hat authorized training center, in addition to the intense Red Hat training requests, we receive many questions about certifications from you! In our "All About RHCSA" blog post, we've compiled what you need to know about Red Hat Certified System Administrator certification. Let's get to know the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certificate together.

RHCSA FAQs

What is Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certification?

RHCSA is an entry-level certification that focalizes on system administration skills, such as installing and configuring a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system and connecting it to a live network with network services operating.

After passing the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200), delegates will be handed the credential.

Is RHCSA useful?

Yes, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certification is very useful. For delegates who are planning to work on Linux platform on different technologies like C, Java or Oracle, this certification will be enough. But delegates who are planning to become a System Admin should get the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) credential as well.

How to prepare for the RHCSA Exam?

The best way to guarantee your success in the RHCSA exam is a good training. If you are a Windows system administrator or if you have minimal experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the best courses for you are: Red Hat System Administration I (RH124) and Red Hat System Administration II (RH134). For Linux or UNIX administrators, RHCSA Rapid Track Course is recommended.

How hard is the RHCSA Exam?

The Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) exam (EX200) is a performance-based exam that assesses your knowledge of system administration topics that are applicable across a wide range of settings and deployment situations. The abilities assessed in this exam are the foundation for all Red Hat products' system management.

So, we can say that the RHCSA questions aren't very difficult since it’s performance-based. In the exam, attendees will be given tasks to do on a real RHEL system, and they will be scored on the system's final condition. If a delegate accomplishes the task, they’ll get credit for that question.

What are the prerequisites for this exam?

All delegates should either take the Red Hat System Administration I (RH124) and Red Hat System Administration II (RH134) or the RHCSA Rapid Track course (RH199) that combines those courses, or have a job experience as a system administrator on Red Hat Enterprise Linux that is equivalent.

Can I take RHCSA Exam online?

Yes, Red Hat's individual exams can be taken remotely or on an individual testing station developed by Red Hat. Remote exams can be taken virtually, completing an end-to-end path to certification through online testing.

Zero to RHCSA, how long would it take?

While the study period will be different for each candidate, delegates participating in the trainings recommended by Red Hat take approximately 3-6 months to study and gain experience before the exam.

Is RHCSA good for DevOps?

RHCSA is the core of all of Red Hat system administration credentials, so candidates start their Red Hat journey with this certification. It's true that the new version of Red Hat® Certified Architect (RHCA) credential aims to prove expertise in technologies associated with DevOps like containers, OpenShift, Ansible, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host and Puppet. So, yes! RHCSA is a good start. Red Hat's Vice President of Training, Ken Goetz explains this very clearly:

"DevOps isn't a product but rather a culture and process. There are certain technologies and skills someone working in a DevOps environment should have. Our goal with this new RHCA concentration is to offer a way for employers to validate these critical open source skills, and in the process, further enable enterprises to accelerate application delivery."
