All You Need to Know About Red Hat
As one of the two authorized Red Hat training centers in Turkey, we receive endless training requests and questions about Red Hat. In this article, we will answer the most frequently asked questions concerning Red Hat. Here’s all you need to know about Red Hat!
What is Red Hat?
Founded in 1993 by Bob Young and Marc Ewing, Red Hat is a multinational American software company that provides open source and Linux-based software products to businesses. Having offices all around the world today, Red Hat is heavily connected with its corporate operating system Red Hat Enterprise Linux. With the acquisition of open source enterprise middleware vendor JBoss, Red Hat has also implemented Red Hat Virtualization (RHV), which is an enterprise virtualization product. Currently, Red Hat provides storage, operating system platforms, middleware, applications, management products and support, training and consulting services.
In addition to these, Red Hat creates, maintains and contributes to many open source software projects. The company has purchased many codebases of proprietary software products through company mergers and acquisitions, and released such software under open source licenses.
What is Red Hat Linux? What is the use of Red Hat Linux?
Linux is an OS, namely an open source operating system. The most important feature of Linux that differentiates it from its counterparts is that it is published under the GNU General Public License. Which means, anyone can run, review, share and even modify this software. The modified code can also be redistributed and sold, but must be made under the same license. With this feature, Linux differs significantly from traditional operating systems such as Unix and Windows, which are offered as proprietary and unchangeable. It can be the basis for almost any IT initiative, including Linux, containers, cloud-based applications, and security.
Is Red Hat Linux Free?
Yes! As we explained above, Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a free and open source software. Red Hat also offers all the source codes for corporate distribution via its FTP site.
What is Red Hat OpenShift?
Businesses use Microservices and Containers to build their applications faster and scale them in hybrid cloud environments. To do this, they must first find the right platform. Red Hat OpenShift is the Kubernetes platform that provides a reliable foundation. It provides the features required by businesses today such as hybrid and multi-cloud features. Red Hat OpenShift is a platform that empowers development teams of businesses to create and implement new applications. These teams can also benefit from thousands of solutions, such as security and scanning, offered by Red Hat's different partners.
To sum it up, Red Hat OpenShift is an open source container application platform for enterprise application development based on the Kubernetes container editor.
What is Red Hat Cloud Suite?
Red Hat Cloud Suite brings together what you will need to create a hybrid cloud, and offers users a common interface for development, operations, IT managers, and lines of business. Cloud Suite is a combination of integrated Red Hat technologies that you can use to build a cloud infrastructure, develop cloud-based applications, and organize deployments in hybrid IT environments.
This combination includes all of Red Hat's cloud infrastructure products such as the Red Hat OpenStack platform, Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Satellite. In addition, the Red Hat OpenShift platform we introduced above is part of the Cloud Suite.
