Recent high profile project failures are often judged to be unsuccessful not because of insufficient technical or project management capability, but due to a lack of effective project governance and inadequate strategic leadership and support.

This highly engaging one-day workshop will evaluate how the project sponsor contributes to successful project delivery. We consider how sponsors can provide active guidance and support to project managers and their teams whilst ensuring that resources are used to deliver best value outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.

Target Audience

No formal prerequisites are required for this workshop although it’s assumed that attendees will be working in (or towards) a role where part of their remit involves some level of accountability for the delivery of project outcomes.

Pre-course Activity
Prior to the workshop, you’ll read a short article and answer the associated questions which ask you to consider the sponsor’s role in supporting the realisation of strategic objectives through effective project execution.

Attendees will be able to:
  • Explain the need for active project sponsorship
  • Describe what a sponsor does for the business and for the project manager
  • Identify the key sponsor responsibilities in each stage of the project life cycle
  • List the key responsibilities of project board members
  • Describe three types of project sponsor
  • Explain the sponsor’s role in relation to effective project governance
  • Identify the main differences between traditional and agile sponsorship
  • Define the key interpersonal attributes of a successful project sponsor
Attendees will be provided with links to further resources that will guide and support their future sponsorship duties.
