Linux is one of the most popular operating systems today, especially because of its high security and stability features and its free availability. Open-source and easy to use, Linux is among the skills that many IT workers - especially system administrators and network engineers - should learn. Also, Linux systems began to form part of virtual environments such as VMware and XEN. In this case, it's quite understandable that there are many different Linux training institutions and certifications. As Bilginç IT Academy, we have brought you different Linux certifications for years thanks to our foreign partnerships and we have gained strong experience in this field. In this new blog post, we will try to examine Linux certifications and determine the most suitable one for you.
We would like to start this blog with an announcement that we are very excited about. Our partnership with The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) started as of September 2022! LPI is a global certification standard and career support organization for open source professionals. With over 200,000 certificate holders, LPI is the world's first and largest vendor-neutral Linux and open-source certification organization. We are very happy to represent this very valuable institution in Turkey and to facilitate your access to exams and certificates.
Let's start by underlining that Linux is perhaps the most used operating system in the world, and let's examine the most popular and effective Linux certifications of recent years.
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the most popular of the paid versions of Linux certifications. Of course, Red Hat's RHCSA certification remains popular, as it is one of the first to come to mind among enterprise open source Linux products.
Be sure to read our blog post All About RHCSA, where we examine the RHCSA Certificate in great detail!
According to a CompTIA research this year, 92% of employers said that IT certified people earn higher starting salaries than those without. So these certifications are really valuable for you!
The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) Certifications
What is the difference between the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) and other Linux certifications?
The biggest difference between LPI and other Linux certification programs is that LPI exams are completely vendor and distribution independent. This way, those who opt for the LPI exams can prove their skills across different distributors to provide flexibility to work in a variety of environments. Vendor-specific certification programs such as Red Hat and Suse only have test systems that they test on their own Linux distributions. Therefore, their certificates are not generally accepted.
LPI covers all Linux programs because its purpose is not to sell a product, but to increase the number of IT professionals who are helping popularize Linux. We can also say that the certification exam fees of LPI, which is a non-profit organization, are more affordable than its competitors.
Of course, the preferred method of candidates who are considering preparing for the LPI exams to ensure their success in the exam is training. CompTIA Linux+
One of the popular Linux certifications that closely follows the market trends is the CompTIA Linux+ certification. This certification is proof of a high level of proficiency in the use of Linux. This highly respected professional certification is also vendor-neutral – meaning it is not tied to a particular product or company. In this respect, it is similar to LPI certificates.
Candidates considering taking this certification exam are usually people who have met and used CompTIA at their workplace. This is because while there are no prerequisites for the CompTIA Linux+ exam, candidates are expected to have 12 months of experience with the Linux operating system as well as CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ before taking the exam.
The Linux Foundation Certifications
One of the non-profit organizations on our list is the Linux Foundation. Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) and Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE), which offers two different certifications, can be a good option for those who are new to Linux. Since the validity period of the certifications is 3 years, it is recommended that you continue your career by considering these certificates as a start.
Is it important to get a Linux certification?
It is always important for IT employees to obtain internationally valid certificates because these certifications are the most accurate way to prove their competence and success in a subject. When applying for a job posting where Linux skills are important, if you have a Linux certification on your CV, it will put you ahead of other candidates. Thanks to our Linux certification programs, you can easily pass your certification exam and add your certification to your CV.
Get certified from Linux Professional Institute, Red Hat, Linux Foundation, CompTIA, Oracle or another organization and include it on your CV to stand out among the many applicants for jobs such as Linux system specialist, Linux operating system, Linux administrator, and Linux system administrator.
