The Kanban Method is a powerful approach to improve workflow, increase team efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.

By the end of the course, participants will leave with a solid understanding of the Kanban Method and the ability to implement it effectively in their own contexts. They will be equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to improve workflow efficiency, drive continuous improvement, and enhance overall team performance.

The course explores the core principles and values that underpin the Kanban Method. Through hands-on simulations, participants will experience a Kanban system and learn how to visualize and optimize workflow effectively. They will gain insights into limiting work in progress (WIP) and witness the impact of flow optimization on productivity and delivery.

Running effective Kanban meetings is crucial for successful implementation. Participants will learn the different types of Kanban meetings and their purposes, along with strategies for fostering effective communication and collaboration within the team.

The course dives into the practical aspects of building and designing a Kanban system using the STATIK approach. Participants will gain skills in mapping the value stream, identifying bottlenecks, and designing Kanban boards that visualize workflow and facilitate efficient task management.

Utilizing key metrics is vital for measuring and improving Kanban performance. Participants will gain a deep understanding of lead time, cycle time, run charts, and cumulative flow diagrams, enabling them to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvement in their Kanban systems.

Although there are no pre-requisites for this course, an understanding of basic Kanban concepts would be of use.

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles, motivations, and advantages of The Kanban Method.

  • Acquire hands-on experience in simulating a Kanban system to effectively visualize and optimize workflow.

  • Develop an understanding of Kanban meetings, enabling efficient organization.

  • Learn to construct and design a robust Kanban system using the STATIK (Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban) approach.

  • Enhance your team's agility and responsiveness.

  • Comprehend the concept of 'Pull' systems and their significant role in alleviating work overload.

  • Master the utilization of key performance metrics such as Lead Time, Run Charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams, enabling continuous improvement and informed decision-making.

During this two-day course, you will explore through discussion, group work and simulations the following topics:-

  • The benefits and motivations for implementing the Kanban method.
  • The values and principles of Kanban
  • Value Stream Mapping
  • STATIK approach to designing a Kanban System
  • Six General practices:
    • Visualize.
    • Limit WIP.
    • Manage flow.
    • Make policies explicit.
    • Establish feedback loops.
    • Improve collaboratively and evolve experimentally.
  • Overview of Kanban meetings
  • Utilizing key metrics for continuous improvement
