Product Owners are the impresario of the scrum process orchestrating the work of the entire Scrum team. They also have an important role in also every aspect of the Scrum Process, except actually writing code. When adopting scrum, an organization cannot succeed without Professional Product Owners that effectively execute their responsibilities. The Product Owner is the primary influencer of work selected by the development team.

Being a Professional Product Owner requires a specific skillset and techniques. This 2-day course provides delegates the necessary skills and the competency to be a leader in an Agile environment. This will better enable delegates to prepare for and achieve the recognised Scrum.org Professional Scrum Product Owner I Assessment. Achieving a Scrum Master certification will demonstrate a good understanding of the framework and exhibits a dedication to continued professional development.

Target Audience

This course is intended for future and current Product Owners that want to maximize their effectiveness within the Scrum process. The goal is to create quality products, of high business value, and on time.

Delegates will learn:

  • Agile and Scrum Process
  • The Product Owner is a member of the Scrum Team. As such, Product Owners must understand both Scrum and Agile fundamentals. This includes understanding Scrum cadence and various roles.
  • Product Owners must also understand the pillars of Empiricism: inspection, adaptation, and transparency.

Product Backlog Management

The Product Owner owns the product backlog, which is the source artifact for Sprint Planning. This means creating, managing, and refining the product backlog. Learn the practices and methods to maintain a quality product backlog.

Maximizing Value

The Product Owner is often referred to as the value master. It is the responsibility of the Product Owner to set the business value of Product Backlog Items (PBI) placed on the Product Backlog. Set the business value influences then entire process, include what and when work is adopted by the development team.

Product Owners also have a key role in Product Refinement and Grooming events.

Communicator

The Product Owner is the funnel for communications between stakeholder and customers with the development team. This is a critical role requiring exceptional communication and negotiation skills.

Exam Administration

After completing the course, delegates may register to take the Scrum.org Professional Scrum Product Owner I Assessment in their own time by going to www.scrum.org. There is a $200 fee for the exam which is not included in the cost of the course.
