This four-day course is the third course in QA’s Terraform learning journey. It is designed for experienced practitioners who already use Terraform in Azure production environments and now need to operate it safely within real DevOps delivery pipelines.

While earlier courses focus on writing Terraform and structuring it for reuse and automation, this course focuses on what happens after Terraform is embedded in CI/CD — when environments are shared, infrastructure already exists, and change must be governed, reviewed, and justified.

Delegates learn to treat Terraform not as a deployment tool, but as a state-driven operating model integrated into DevOps workflows for managing ownership, intent, and risk over time. The course reflects how Terraform is used in mature organisations, where automation executes decisions, but humans remain accountable for them.

This course goes beyond “Terraform + CI/CD”.

It teaches how Terraform should be operated inside DevOps, where:

• pipelines execute, but humans decide
• plans are reviewed as governance artefacts
• state represents ownership and authority
• change is deliberate, not automatic

This makes the course suitable for organisations operating regulated, multi-team Azure estates.

Prerequisites

This is an advanced course. Delegates should already be comfortable working with Terraform in Azure and familiar with DevOps delivery concepts.

To gain maximum value from this course, delegates should have completed:

Terraform in Practice (QATIP)
Intermediate Terraform Cloud Automation (QATIPINT)

- or have equivalent experience using Terraform with modules, remote state, and CI/CD pipelines.

Module 2 – Input Hygiene, Validation, and Determinism

Introduces defensive Terraform patterns that prevent unsafe configuration from entering state via CI/CD.

Module 3 – Dynamic Configuration and Predictable Scaling

Demonstrates how to scale Terraform configurations without introducing hidden churn in automated deployments.

Module 4 – Multi-Environment State and Remote Backends

Covers remote state, environment isolation, and operational risk when Terraform is executed through shared pipelines.

Module 5 – Modular Design and Safe Refactoring

Focuses on evolving Terraform configurations safely while preserving identity in live DevOps workflows.

Module 6 – Reuse, Contracts, and Organisational Boundaries

Examines shared module consumption, interface contracts, and handling change across teams.

Module 7 – Intent-Driven Promotion and Governance

Explores promotion, approvals, and governance as explicit DevOps controls rather than implicit automation.

Module 8 – Consuming and Reconciling with a Centralised Landing Zone

Addresses brownfield reality, platform consumption, and reconciling existing workloads within a governed DevOps model.
